Postgraduate Year One (PGY-1) – Cape Coral Hospital

Purpose and Mission Statements of PGY-1 Program

Purpose Statement: The Lee Health PGY1 pharmacy residency programs will build on the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

Mission Statement: The residency program at Lee Health is committed to providing excellent training experiences that support the resident's clinical, academic, and professional interests. The program is dedicated to preparing future pharmacy clinicians and leaders by promoting confidence, leadership and professional skills.

Cape Coral医院项目Specifics

Our comprehensive residency program at Cape Coral Hospital is designed to develop clinical competencies, leadership and professional skills. The PGY-1 residents will function as an integral part of the healthcare team including working closely with the newly established Florida State University Internal Medicine General Medical Residency (FSU GME) program on campus. The residents will participate in daily rounding as the drug information expert for the FSU GME team during their Internal Medicine I & II rotations. The PGY-1 residency program will further support the GME program through participating in ambulatory/transitions of care with the GME outpatient clinic and participating in the GME Noon Conference.

Core Clinical Rotations

Required core learning experiences are four weeks and include the following:

  • Orientation
  • Internal Medicine Rounding I
  • Internal Medicine Rounding II
  • Antimicrobial Stewardship

Completion of Orientation and required core rotations will allow the resident to choose four months of elective rotations. The resident may choose to do more than one rotation in a given practice area; however, the rotation must provide a different learning environment or patient population. The resident is encouraged to select elective rotations to provide a breadth of experience; therefore, a maximum of three rotations are allowed within a specific patient population and not more than two non-direct patient care rotations.

The research project will be presented by the resident to members of the Department of Pharmacy and at the Florida Residency Conference in the Spring.

Residents will learn practical skills and analyze their own abilities in developing a personal leadership vision. Learning methods include reading, discussion, reflective writing, and ongoing interaction with managers and leaders.
