Biography

Dr. Onal believes that children are the most precious members of our community and he takes joy in serving them. He is married to a Floridian and he has two children. He loves fishing with his son and enjoys life near the ocean.

Before relocating to Southwest Florida, Dr. Onal served as assistant professor at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine for four years. Dr. Onal relocated to southwest Florida in 2011 and helped build a pediatric multi-specialty clinic in Naples and served as Chairman of Pediatrics at NCH.

Dr. Onal specializes in treating many heart conditions including congenital and acquired heart disease. He also performs fetal echocardiograms to diagnose heart conditions before birth.

Meet the Doctor

My name is Tankut Onal. I'm a Pediatric Cardiologist. I am originally from Turkey. And I was born in a beautiful town called Antalya on the Mediterranean Coast. I joined Lee Health in beginning of 2022. And the reason I joined is because I believe kids deserved the highest quality of care and goes on our children's hospital is being the only Children's Hospital in Southwest Florida. I believe this is the institution they receive that high quality of care and I wanted to be a part of it. Well, I always wanted to be a cardiologist. It was back in medical school. When I did my first pediatric rotation. I saw babies born with congenital heart disease and you know, that's none of their fault and they were born with it. And I was very interested in treating those babies who were born with heart disease and that's part of my interest and that's how it started. I am a beach person. I love spending time on the beach with my kids. I love going fishing with my son and I love reading also like reading nonfiction.

Dr Onal is the best doctor I've ever had. I've been visiting different doctors and cardiologists trying to get diagnosed and advice with autonomic dysfunction, POTS, and Dr Onal has been a huge help in finally getting control of what's been going on with me. He spent time with me, explaining everything and never once seeming rushed, or inconvenienced, and answered all of my questions thoroughly. Overall he has been truly been a godsend in my care

Dr Onal was the first doctor I've had who has taken the time to listen to me and explain everything thoroughly about how I can improve my health and my symptoms. He was very kind and compassionate and I feel relieved after having my appointment with him. For the first time in a Long time, I felt like a doctor actually listened to me. As for the nurses and office staff, they were all incredible. Every one of them. I wish I could remember names specifically but they were friendly, helpful with my children and the overall experience completely exceeded all of my expectations. Thank you to this wonderful team of caring and compassionate people.

Dr. Onal is a fantastic cardiologist. I especially appreciate his willingness to explain exactly what the findings mean, and why certain “abnormal” findings are actually normal, so I am equipped to address those concerns with other practitioners in the future.
